So much more than just a destination

Summer, the way it used to be. A chance to unplug from the daily whir of emails and updates and have real conversations - to reconnect with family and friends in an idyllic, natural, island setting.

What to Expect

Wake up as the bugle calls you to breakfast in the main hall. Sitting on the covered porch, passing eggs and bacon around the table, you might discuss plans for the day, the last book you read, or anything else, with old and new-found friends and family.

After breakfast, meander down to the dock where you will be in and out of the water all morning long - swimming, kayaking, paddle-boarding.

Hopefully you didn't forget some pocket change for one of the last working mail boats in the U.S. - which has post cards for sale, as well as a freezer full of ice cream.

After lunch, it may be time for an afternoon swim - or a hike around the island - or a round of tennis - or a sailing adventure. The kids will likely be busy swimming or playing capture the flag on Hawk's Nest Island, or ping pong or foosball in the rec hall.

The bugle blows again for dinner - another healthy and delicious family-style affair - after which you might go watch sunset from the dock, catch a talk from a visiting naturalist, or go for an evening canoe ride.

What to Bring

THINGS YOU WILL NEED
  • comfortable clothing

Island life is decidedly casual - comfortable clothes (preferably in layers for those cool mornings and evenings) and outdoor shoes are essential

You will spend a lot of time in and on the water

  • hat and sunscreen

You'll be outside much of the day

Electric lighting only available at main house, dock and Rec Hall, and the Retreat

Summer is usually delightful, but we can't guarantee the weather

THINGS YOU MIGHT LIKE TO HAVE
  • friends and family

Special people to share the experience with - but you may also make new friends

  • a good book

You might find some time to pull up a chair on the dock or on your cabin's porch to dig into that book you've been meaning to read

  • lantern

You may wish to have an additional electric light source for your cabin
